Officers do not know why Herrera stopped. The collision pushed the Mini Cooper more than 150-feet down the railroad track. Debris broke apart from the vehicle and scattered alongside the track. The Amtrak train sustained minor damage. None of the train's passengers were injured during the collision. The train was delayed less than three hours to repair the damages. Crews temporarily closed Franklin Boulevard and Burlington Road.Around 12:30 p.m., crews towed the Mini Cooper from the crash site. GREENSBORO — A person died Sunday after a train struck a vehicle on the railroad tracks at the intersection of Burlington Road and Franklin Boulevard. Greensboro Police Sgt. W. J. Redfearn said the vehicle's driver died in the collision. No one else was in the vehicle. Redfearn said officers have not made a positive identification of the driver. More than 146 people were on board of the commuter train that hit the vehicle. No one on the train was injured.
Redfearn said police do not know why the vehicle was stopped on the tracks when the train approached. The collision pushed the vehicle down the track more than 150 feet.  The train had minor damage following the wreck. The train was unable to continue on its route until the damage was fixed which took less than three hours. Pieces of the vehicle laid along the train track Sunday afternoon. Crews from three wreckers worked to remove both the vehicle and the debris around noon. The wreck caused officer to temporarily close Burlington Road and Franklin Boulevard. Both roads reopened before noon.

We can't go more than a couple of days that a passenger train encounters a vehicle at a crossing.

Probably couldn't have been a worse vehicle to get hit unless it was a Fiat. Once again the article makes it sound like it was the train's fault with it's "train strikes vehicle" narrative. Like they were suppose to swerve or stop?

Could be any train, still scary and I wish people would pay attention when the gates are down!

The article was pretty clear, the driver stopped on the tracks with the crossing gates down, and was struck and killed.   AA

Well,that explains the power adjustment.
Leader was P42 25...it looks like that unit ran solo to Richmond.where engine 139 was added as a leader ahead of 25 (train 195 ran down with P42's 139-173 earlier).80 was 7:29 late departing Richmond.

The train did strike the vehicle. It's called facts. I don't think anybody, except you, thinks the train was at fault.

NCDOT identified this crossing for eventual replacement by a $10M bridge, but at present there are other crossings that scored higher for the sealed corridor program.
