Electricity is not dirty. "Clean" coal is. Multiple sources are available for generation of power that are cheaper and more efficient.

When it is produced by "dirty" fuel!

Trains with Propellers? Literally? Here's a picture of what TAW mentioned.

This was the rear end (it was a pusher) of the prototype Kruchenberg Schienenzeppelin
(Rail Zeppelin), built 1930-31.

It was faster than Acela and the original Shinkansen (145mph verified between Hamburg
and Berlin) on relatively flat track, but in hilly terrain the BMW aircraft engine
and propeller could not maintain adequate speed; nor did they provide adequate
acceleration from standstill; they had to be supplemented by DC electric drive.

Of course, this speed was soundly surpassed by jet power: the B-47 jet engines
on a Budd Rail Diesel Car, on the New York Central.

Not as many as if we continue pouring CO2 and other nasties into the atmosphere.

I'm with TAW and GP, that is what I expected to see. Glad to hear Seattle is going green.

Very few wind farms would be built without subsidies. Bird deaths are just an added cost.

Interesting that a Texas oil guy was a big promoter of wind power (his ventures have eventually failed), and yes, subsidies and other "government incentives" motivated people like him.

Here's hoping climate change won't stop the wind in Washington State. :-)
