Passenger Trains > DinersDate: 04/25/17 16:26 Diners Author: texchief1 How many diners did Amtrak order? Are they just for the single level trains and not the Superliners?
Thanks in advance. Randy Lundgren Elgin, TX Date: 04/25/17 16:43 Re: Diners Author: n5dhg They ordered 25 single-level Viewliner II's, no Superliners.
Date: 04/26/17 08:57 Re: Diners Author: NGotwalt Yeah just single level as the single level trains really needed the equipment. I know Western guys will say "We need it too!" but we in the East were staring down the complete end of dining car service on our Long Distance trains, because our diners our 65-70 years old and are literally starting to fall apart. In fact Amtrak has 20 heritage diners, but 11 are permanently OOS account of frame cracks, which is why only the Meteor and Crescent still have full service diners. Everything else you eat microwaved food from the cafe car. So yeah we needed these new Diners twenty years ago.
