You just answered it. I don't think railroad experience is relevant in this situation. When you plan to make drastic cuts, too much knowledge could be a hindrance. His having very few friends in the industry will actually help in making the cuts, since that minimizes the possibility of favoritism. I'm surprised all this isn't crystal clear. If I recall, Alan Boyd was the president who started the project to begin the 480 volt HEP conversion era with Heritage Equipment and the eventual retirement for steam heated trains. At Delta I found that he was a great man who kept the customer service. I am very proud to see this come to Amtrak. |
