Passenger Trains > Extra long train 50Date: 07/19/17 07:03 Extra long train 50 Author: cabsignaldrop The Cardinal out of Chicago last night had 6 coaches, 2 sleepers, lounge and a business class car as well as a baggage car and 2 engines.
A group of Boy Scouts were to get on in Chicago, but due to the lateness of the western trains they bussed about 300 Scouts to Indianapolis were they boarded after midnight. I've never seen the Cardinal with 6 coaches. They train maxed out with about 400 passengers. The Scouts are going to Prince, WV. Much faster to bypass Chicago.

I'm learning that 'on-time departure' is a far more important management measurement criteria than 'customer service', 'delayed to make connections', etc. It's part of the ingrained railroad management culture, and applies to all railroads these days.
