Passenger Trains > Amtrak 29 late out of DC again

Anyone know why? Departed 4 hours 30 mins. late out of DC today, 7/22/17

I don't know why but passengers from the Pennsylvanian arrived PGH tonight 08 mins early at 7:57 pm. #29 is due PGH 3 hrs., 52 mins late about 3:40 am. A long wait if Pennsylvanian passengers
are transferring to # 29.

This morning Capitol # 30 arrived PGH 2 hrs., 35 mins late at 7:40 am. The Pennsylvanian had departed to NYP on time at 7:30 am. I hope transferring passengers were not on board # 30.

Not the best of days to be sure.

29 uses a set of equipment that is serviced overnight. It is not a same day turn.

Probably has to due Crew rest time and/or if they needed to refuel / inspect the Locomotives and wye the train .

I bet it was a mechanical issue that they found at Ivy City and fixed it before it was sent to its assigned track!

#29 left PGH 4 hrs., 16 mins. late at 4:16 am.
ETA Chicago 3 hrs., 34 mins. late. scheduled arrival time is 8:45 am.

How much would it cost (PA) to offer a staffed lounge for transferring passengers?

That Pittsburgh transfer situation can only be described as cheesy.
I just can't believe two of our large East coast cities(Philadelphia & Baltimore),
are denied direct rail service to Chicago. You can't even check bags for crying out loud!

"Cheesy" indeed. Can you imagine going to any airport and NOT being able to check your bag thru to your final destination? I can't.

Pennsylvania is expected to fill the DOT leadership position soon. Perhaps that's another opportunity to look at the overall Pittsburgh rail situation.

The outgoing chair of the DOT took over the top job at the Pennsylvania Turnpike Authority.

Good to know. The train has a 27-hour turn at Washington. Since you're aware of the "unfixable mechanical issue," can you tell us when it was discovered? Upon arrival, and couldn't be fixed in 27 hours? Or the morning of departure? Any more specifics you can share to help explain why a train with a 27-hour layover departed 4 hours late?

I agree, either mechanical issue! There's no other reason why 29 was over 4 hours late leaving DC!
