Amtrak Michigan Line limited to 79mph
Author: GenePoon

Received information:

Normally operated at up to 110mph, the Amtrak Michigan Line has been limited to 79mph due
to a suspension of ITCS, the Positive Train Control on that line, for two days without further
explanation.

Good thing we didn't install cab signals and ACSES on this line.

I hope that is short and a reason comes out. Just about to do a trip soon and this will ensure delay. Probably a minimum of 30 mins extra run time?

Have the Siemens SC-44 Chargers been cut-in with the new equipment to operate the Michigan trains?

I'd be happy with cab signals.

Perhaps in my kids lifetime we can have 4 hour, 30 minute Chicago to Detroit service like the joint PRR/Wabash ran into the mid 40s...

As the 79mph operation continues into Wednesday morning, review of running times so far proves that there is no substantial gain in running 110mph. Track and signal restrictions nullify and mummify the gains spend with that loot of $$$.. Millions and millions spent to save minutes... Trains are able to run within tolerance without the higher speeds!

So much for the hype of saying "high speed" because the top speed is 110 rather than 79. In the case of SEHSR between Raleigh and Petersburg, Va., the only way for 110 to make a significant difference in schedule is a massive relocation of the ROW to allow sustained running at 110. Of course, this also makes the project enormously expensive. And the only reason it's even feasible is that far southern Virginia is very sparsely populated.
