That's actually a pretty cool little article and some impressive pictures.
The control room shot is neat! After the original Penn Station was torn down,
was there any rationalization of the track plant? Or, is the layout & capacity
essentially the same from the Pennsylvania RR days?

The same. The changes were pretty much all above street level.

True for platform tracks more or less, but not for A interlocking, since the entire connection to West Side Yard, and the Empire Connection was absent back then.

Anyone else notice the Amtrak Pointless Arrow logo still on the wall in the first picture? Cool.

There are several current and retired dispatchers etc involved in that operation who post here or lurk here.

Every once in a while I'll receive a PM with background.

Of the 12 "dispatchers", how many are CETC or Section train dispatchers and how many are PSCC operators?
Mention was made of LIRR employees - what does LIRR control from Penn Station as opposed to from their Jamaica operations center?

I wonder what the dispatchers on the night shift do to keep busy.

I understand that LIRR and Amtrak share responsibility of dispatching Penn Station. But someone more familiar with the setup between Amtrak and LIRR can perhaps fill in the details.
