This came out really well--good color and detail. Nice scouting to find this location.
John Date: 09/14/17 21:20 Re: Union Pacific Sales and Marketing Special Author: coach Is this train being run because UP finally realizes that carload counts are down? And their reefer business in California, after a decent start years ago, is really hurting?
That train rolled by several spurs that serve refrigerated packing houses, plus more in Salinas, and you have to wonder if they even noticed... Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/14/17 21:22 by coach. Date: 09/14/17 22:39 Re: Union Pacific Sales and Marketing Special Author: cchan006 coach Wrote:

There were several UP Specials that ran up and down the Coast in the past. Those runs might have coincided with the track and tie improvements on the Coast Line, maybe about 2-3 years ago? If UP didn't notice then, I doubt they noticed this time either. This Special "hooked a right" at Lathrop after heading south from Elvas (Sacramento area), headed back to the Coast Line and avoided the reefer traffic originating in the Central Valley (near Fresno), so maybe they didn't want to notice! |
