Passenger Trains > Status of Crescent for mid January 2018Date: 09/16/17 13:23 Status of Crescent for mid January 2018 Author: frntinplate Just checking the Amtrak site and nothing stated regarding a service interruption weekdays in January. One can still make reservations on a train. Usually the NS closes the line between New Orleans and Atalanta for scheduled major trackwork during past several January time periods. This has been shown as a bus route instead of a train on Amtrak reservations. Does anyone know if this will be the case again this coming January?

Who cares if it's a bus. You may even get there faster. Date: 09/16/17 20:15 Re: Status of Crescent for mid January 2018 Author: bh35226 Too early to tell the exact dates of the trackwork. The NS usually doesn't tell Amtrak and, thus the public, until late November or early December. It usually starts the first full week of January, which would be Jan 2 or 3 but may be the next week. No trains south of Atlanta Monday through Thursday. Track work continues for 4 to 6 weeks depending on what they have planned. And, skips Mardi Gras, if it falls during this time.

That means that southbound #19 will operate from NYP to NOL only on NYP departures on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Northbound #20 will operate NOL-NYP on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday departures from NOL.
