If I was 30 years old, and had an opportunity for a 50% pay boost (from $32 to $46/ hour), doing the same kind of work, it wouldn't take me long to decide. There are several factors why, such as overtime, arbitraries and such. The disparity is greater for less senior crews. Another main reason for many is the atmosphere at NJT. I have never seen such horrible morale in the 20 years since hiring on at NJT. Once again there are several reasons for this, a few of which were mentioned in the article.
