WASHINGTON — An Amtrak train hit and killed a person in Gaithersburg Tuesday afternoon, and the investigation has closed tracks in Montgomery County.


A person was struck by the train near the train station located near S. Summit Avenue and E. Diamond Avenue in Gaithersburg, Maryland, around 2 p.m.


The train, coming from Chicago, had scheduled an emergency stop at Rockville’s station before its final destination in D.C. for a medical situation on board. On its way to the emergency stop, the train hit a pedestrian near the Gaithersburg station, said Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service spokesman Pete Piringer.


The person hit by the train died on the scene. The patient on board the train was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Piringer said.

On MARC, Brunswick Line Trains are cleared to operate west of Rockville Station, and delays of 20-30 minutes are anticipated for trains 873, 891, 875, and 877 due to single tracking and congestion. Other trains who share the track should anticipate delays.

Montgomery County police are on the scene investigating.

So crack reporter Sara Beth reports what trains are being delayed do to Amtrak "killing" a person (note to Sara, the train didn't kill anyone, the did it to themselves by being on the tracks illegally) but doesn't bother to find out what train was involved in the incident.

It's train 30. I'm on the train. We were running an hour and half late before the incident. Took over 2 hours to clear up and pulled up to Rockville and now conductor out of hours so parked waiting on a new one

OUCH OUCH , that would be Amtrak Capitol Limited train 30 of 22nd.
The Amtrak Capitol Limited is the ONLY AMTRAK train on this line Brunswick line.
ALl of the other passenger trains on this line are MARC commuter trains
