Passenger Trains > Not Just Another L A Car Chase

New wrinkle to the usual nightly high-speed pursuit in L A; tonight's perp drove into a long tunnel on the Gold Line extension in East L A, and has not exited. Gold Line trains still running into that tunnel!

Staying tuned...

The driver was arrested after he found a way to open an escape hatch.

Apparently NBC cut into their fake Olympic coverage (because most prime time isn't live) to show this live!

A most interesting chase. It appeared that the area leading into the tunnel was paved at both ends. Was the interior also paved?
If so why? If not that guy had an extremely rough ride, but he probably cared little since he was driving a stolen vehicle.

He's lucky a Gold Line Train didn't get to him 1ST!

No, it is not paved, but his truck was able to keep clear of the rails enough so as to make it to the first station he encountered (Soto):

Thanks for the follow-up. From the TV broadcast it appeared the tunnel portals led into a wide tunnel where maybe the guy could drive to either side to avoid a train. Obviously not so from the still photos. Only a fool would drive into one.
