That's along the route of VIA's Ocean in eastern Quebec and the location where Amtrak's Superliner II were built...then shipped to the US to be completed. Date: 04/02/18 16:57 Re: GOOD NEWS! I thought it was funny. Andy Date: 04/02/18 17:13 Re: GOOD NEWS! Money to be invested in longhaul train car renovat Author: andersonb109 Most of VIA's Budd cars used on the Canadian were refurbished just a few years ago. At least cosmetically. And not just the Prestige cars. Manor sleepers, diners, and some Skylines. The coaches and coach Skyline were looking a little ratty last time I rode in June.

Money to be invested in longhaul train car renovat Author: gbmott Press release I saw seemed to indicate that these would all be diesel multiple units for service on the Hamilton-Toronto-Montreal-Ottawa corridor. Specifically there was nothing mentioned to indicate any of this would be for VIA's few long distance trains.

"...an investment for the renovation of a part of VIA Rail's long-haul fleet." Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/02/18 21:51 by GenePoon. Date: 04/03/18 04:43 Re: GOOD NEWS! Money to be invested in longhaul train car renovat Author: gbmott Ah, I confused this with an announcement a month ago about "Via Rail is finally getting funding to replace its aging fleet on the Quebec City to Windsor line . . . The company wants 32 train sets with 9,100 passenger seats, and fuel-efficient diesel engines that can be adapted for electrified rail infrastructure should it become available. The trains would be “push-pull,” meaning they wouldn’t need to turn around at stations before running in the opposite direction, as they currently do." It sounds like these are two different things, both of them GOOD NEWS! Sorry for the confusion.
