WOW, quoted from the link:

DeLorenzo said a conductor the next morning told him that the crew on the original train were told not to complete the trip to High Bridge in order to save on overtime.

"They wanted to wait for the actual scheduled train so they didn't have to pay any conductors overtime even though that was our train that should have gone to High Bridge," DeLorenzo said.

Management incompetence.

There is no shelter waiting on that westbound platform either. If you head into the depot across the tracks, you risk getting trapped by downed crossing gates awaiting the next westbound train (that is headed beyond the yard) to High Bridge.

Service to the nether reaches of NJ Transit can be a real step child at times. Hackettstown, Annandale, Bay Head, etc

Does not excuse first lying to passengers and then stranding them.

This is NJ. They're lucky they weren't beaten and dragged off the train.

Nobody is excusing the terrible service. On a less frequent basis, it has happened forever. Nobody cares. Election is over, there are spoils to be distributed, like senior NJT jobs
