Fire Anderson billboards
Author: co614

I just heard from a friend who rode into Philly today from NYC that there's a pair of giant billboards just north of Philly next to the tracks that say " Save Amtrak, Fire Anderson" and are clearly visible from the train.

Anyone else seen them??? Guess its another manifestation of Anderson making enemies of former supporters.

It will be interesting to see if terminating him will gain any traction on Capitol Hill which of course is where the real bosses are.

Thanks for sharing. It would certainly be interesting to see the billboards. Can they be seen from an Amtrak train? <G>

As stated above, yes clearly visible from the Amtrak mainline. My friend said they are about 1 mile north of the No.Philly station on the firemans side heading south. He said they are huge, maybe 30 ft. square each.

Obviously Anderson has made enemies of many former supporters with his abrupt policy changes effecting charters and PV's and I'm sure these billboards are a reflection of that. The crucial question is,.... has he made enough enemies to get fired ??

Time will tell.

Oh, no he won't get fired as he's going to make Amtrak profitable like an airline...cough, cough...

Waiting to see photos of the billboards, perhaps from a train window.

All this anti-Anderson rhetoric is misguided. Amtrak is broken. The status quo is not an option going forward. Here is a gifted executive, arguably the best airline CEO in the past half century, doing his considerable best to bring Amtrak into the future. He has assembled an excellent management team to assist him. A better Amtrak will come from their efforts and decisions.

Could that be the same sponsor as those red Ebay hats ?

On Ebay, I get a message that 10% of the $15 supports Wounded Warriors, nothing about any rail organization.

99.99% of the NEC riders are (a) not looking out the window, and (b) don't give a hoot about Anderson, dining cars, or Raton Pass.

From what's been going on so far your claim is having a lot of potholes in it!

Exactly, SNOOZE.....

Just like 99.9999999% of Americans don't care about or need Amtrak and feel the same way, SNOOZE.....

Caps and billboards might backfire.

Some people and politicians might start thinking "to hell with it".

His plans are to kill Amtrak. Gordon Bethune was the best Airline Executive of all time. He put Continental on the map. Mr. Anderson has upset his own people, freight railroads and local officials.

If these exist, likely paid for by union(s) who have a bone to pick.

Billboards like this are typically not very effective.

Reality says the opposite.

Senators and Representatives from both parties in New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, North Dakota, and West Virginia have already started to take aim at Amtrak/Anderson.

"Best airline executive in this half century..." I'd say he is in a pretty small club, but can't hold a candle to Herb Kelliher of Southwest.

Dueling billboards supporting / opposing our President are on a single mast on Southern Boulevard in West Palm Beach. Between the airport / golf course and Palm Beach.

As far as I can tell, they serve to fire up both bases.
