Passenger Trains > Passenger Trains in Lockport, IL A potential circle trip by traiDate: 06/21/18 17:23 Passenger Trains in Lockport, IL A potential circle trip by trai Author: rhburn3 A group of 5 railfans had dinner at the Embers Restaurant on Illinois Highway 171 in downtown, Lockport, IL. We sat on the upper deck and took photos of the entertainment as seen in the attached photos.
The double track line is owned by the Canadian National, but the volume of freight business is from the Union Pacific and has 5 Amtrak passenger trains each way and 4 Metra Heritage Corridor trains. The line was part of the Chicago and Alton which became the Gulf Mobile & Ohio which became the Illinois Central Gulf which became part of the part of the CN. If this line bores you, it is 3/8 mile walk to 9th Street and the busy BNSF Transcon line. If you are downtown Chicago, you can come to the Embers Restaurant on Metra train 915 leaving at 2:45 pm and getting off at Lockport at 3:36 pm. You can sit on the deck and watch trains until 7:02 pm and take Metra Train 921 to Joliet arriving at 7:18 pm. The equipment for train 915 is the same as for train 921. From Joliet, you return to Chicago via Amtrak train 304 leaving Joliet at 7:26 pm or Rock Island train 428 via the main line leaving Joliet at 8:30 pm. Food at the Embers is very reasonable with free railfan views and they discount with www.restaurant.com Date: 06/21/18 17:25 Re: Passenger Trains in Lockport, IL A potential circle trip by Author: aronco Why, I always prefer to ride the "Rock" when I can.
