Texas sinkhole delays 22(5), now 13 hrs late approaching Chicago
Author: illini73

A sinkhole opened under Union Pacific tracks in Van Zandt County, TX yesterday, halting the northbound Texas Eagle near Mineola.  A six-hour delay ensued until the tracks re-opened about 0400 this morning.  Further delays have the train 13 hours late in southern Illinois, with a likely 3 a.m. arrival into Chicago.  (Info. from the Tyler, TX Morning Telegraph.)

And I bet the Amtrak haters will still peg Amtrak with the delay on this one...

While clearly not Amtrak's fault, passengers should be allowed to occupy their rooms until a reasonable time in the morning in Chicago. So as not to be thrown out onto the increasingly dangerous Chicago streets in the middle of the night.  But of course we all know that will never happen.

OTOH, they do need to turn the equipment in time for the next day's departure, which they did - #21(7) OT out of Union Station this afternoon.
