Passenger Trains > FL wave streetcar project endsDate: 12/04/18 17:17 FL wave streetcar project ends Author: Lackawanna484 The Fort Lauderdale Wave streetcar project has apparently been terminated. In an unusual conclusion, tax payers will get back their money.
Wave was a 3 mile connector, designed to link downtown with nearby areas seen as ripe for development. The costs increased as the project was whittled back. Posted from Android Date: 12/04/18 17:35 Re: FL wave streetcar project ends Author: Duna Lackawanna484 Wrote:

Date: 12/04/18 17:38 Re: FL wave streetcar project ends Author: chrsjrcj The project was cancelled earlier in the year when the bids came in higher than budget. It also didn't help that the new city commission was mostly against the project.
I would've liked to see an east to west light rail in addition to a downtown to airport connector. The Wave streetcar was significantly skilled back from those initial plans. That said, Broward County did pass a 1 cent sales tax increase, but I didn't see anything for light rail in the proposals. Yes, the cancellation of this project was a smart move that was supported by the local business community. It was highly unlikely that someone would bother taking the Wave for such a short distance especially with ride sharing service being so common in Fort Lauderdale. |
