Passenger Trains > NYT: President Bush to ride in locomotiveDate: 12/06/18 06:37 NYT: President Bush to ride in locomotive Author: WM_1109 It's in the New York Times, so it must be true...
"Seventy years after that trip in the Studebaker, Mr. Bush’s funeral train will take him on one last journey through the state on Thursday, this time in a Union Pacific locomotive. The train, named Union Pacific 4141, will travel 70 miles through Magnolia, Navasota and other small towns, led by a 4,300-horsepower locomotive painted blue, gray and white in homage to the colors of Air Force One." https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/06/us/bush-texas-funeral-burial.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage Of course, referencing the 2005 unveiling of UP 4141, NYT also reports that "Then, for about two short miles, he took his funeral train out for a spin." -Ted Date: 12/06/18 07:44 Re: NYT: President Bush to ride in locomotive Author: HotWater Theowhitey Wrote:

Don't take it personally. I wasn't said to raise your blood pressure. "Take a spin" is only a figure of speech. Some railbuffs take themselves and their hobby way to seriously. It was a locomotive that he took for a spin. The funeral train wasn't present, because it did not exist. -Ted Date: 12/06/18 10:41 Re: NYT: President Bush to ride in locomotive Author: srlawton I submitted a comment to NYT on that first blunder, then gave up.

That was so consistent that I asked on another thread if UP was operating it as "funeral train 4141" or something similar. I have seen "Train Force One" but consider that an unofficial name, if ever used by the railroad at all. As far as "riding in the locomotive" they have certainly earned the title of "the failing New York Times" this time. Dave Date: 12/07/18 20:42 Re: NYT: President Bush to ride in locomotive Author: JimBaker I have heard 'UP 4141' as the Train ID.
