"Seventy years after that trip in the Studebaker, Mr. Bush’s funeral train will take him on one last journey through the state on Thursday, this time in a Union Pacific locomotive. The train, named Union Pacific 4141, will travel 70 miles through Magnolia, Navasota and other small towns, led by a 4,300-horsepower locomotive painted blue, gray and white in homage to the colors of Air Force One."

Of course, referencing the 2005 unveiling of UP 4141, NYT also reports that "Then, for about two short miles, he took his funeral train out for a spin."

Don't take it personally. I wasn't said to raise your blood pressure. "Take a spin" is only a figure of speech. Some railbuffs take themselves and their hobby way to seriously.

No, the 2005 part of the story is incorrect. It was a locomotive that he took for a spin. The funeral train wasn't present, because it did not exist.

I submitted a comment to NYT on that first blunder, then gave up. 

NO ONE on TV could understand the difference between a TRAIN and a LOCOMOTIVE!

Yes.

That was so consistent that I asked on another thread if UP was operating it as "funeral train 4141" or something similar.

It would be interesting to know what they called it on the radio.
I have seen "Train Force One" but consider that an unofficial name, if ever used by the railroad at all.

As far as "riding in the locomotive" they have certainly earned the title of "the failing New York Times" this time.
