I was also surprised seeing the welded rail on the wye. We were coming home on the regular day train and had to pull up the wye to let the 5:30 Polar Express out. We then backed into the depot. The Grand Canyon Railway does a phenomenal business with their Polar Express trains. 2 runs a night with 15 cars and an F40 on both ends. Packed on the weekends with 1300 riders each trip. Told us they hauled 103,000 people on last years PE runs. Date: 12/07/18 14:58 Re: Fairly easy where is it? Author: mundo Remember the wye at Williams was built when they did the transcon line relocation in the mid 60's, so it was built to then modern standards of welded rail
In the days of regular schedule trains to Grand Canyon and Phoenix from Williams Jct, those trains were turned on the wye. For Grand Canyon, normal was for the inbound train from the Canyon to turn prior to arrival at Williams Jct Station. Date: 12/07/18 15:20 Re: Fairly easy where is it? Author: PHall Why does the Conductor have a back pack on? Is he expecting to get left by the train?

Toasty warm, doh!!! i was thinking the same thing. Maybe he’s changing spots on the train and does not want to walk back through the trains to get his gear? I have a job where my go home move is lining the engine into the tie up track. I often snag my grip first so after I line behind its a just a short walk to the yard office. Especially if I'm going to end up nowhere near the locomotive when that last move finally comes to an end. Date: 12/08/18 08:44 Re: Fairly easy where is it? Author: rbenko Nice post there DB!
It was a c-c-c-cold backup move to the station, standing on the back platform of the "Chief". Still, a wonderful end to a glorious day riding the rails and seeing the canyon. There was a CSX train crew member wearing a backpack who got hers snagged on a passing train a few years ago. DOA, IIRC.
