Amtrak 449 OT departure at South Station
Author: JPB

Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited 449 is 50 yards into its 1,000 mile trek to Chicago, departing BOS OT at 12:50pm as it passes the future Northeast Regional 135 train, which won't depart for another 50 minutes. NER 135 will complete its 457 mile journey to DC at 9:35pm after stopping almost everywhere on the NEC. Hopefully, 49/449 will be closing in on Syracuse at that hour, some 350 miles into its trip.

Nice, clear picture and the engines look clean.

If one wishes to take photos at South Station  is permission required from Amtrak or the police ?

Thanks! South Station's platform area gets a lot of foot traffic and I'm guessing if one doesn't loiter, he won't attract the attention of police. But if that Amtrak NE Regional train had been actively boarding at the time we strolled out to end of the platform a couple of minutes ahead of 449's 12:50pm departure, we likely would have had to show a crewman an Amtrak ticket. But the platform was open so we spent 5-10 minutes out and back to the head house. And we were using everyman's camera, an iPhone, rather than a typical foamer's DSLR. Veni, vidi, vici!
