A Surfliner Comes To The Rescue
Author: walstib

What's left of Surfliner 774 — the morning departure from San Luis Obispo — heads south at Seacliff this evening with train 792, minus the cab car from the ill-fated 774.

Train 774 struck a tree somewhere around Surf this morning, and limped into Goleta about 90 minutes late. The train was annulled there.

The 774 consist went south with 792 this afternoon, but its cab car was left at Goleta. Train 774 was running with the consist that includes a sightseer lounge.

Reports elsewhere said the cab car had some flat spots on its wheels. I don't know about other damage; I haven't seen it.

If I remember correctly, I think I read elsewhere that they stuffed the cab car on the siding at Ellwood in Goleta, where an empty baretable train has been parked since last week.
