Passenger Trains > Amtrak Service in Michigan on Friday - A train wreck..Date: 02/09/19 07:19 Amtrak Service in Michigan on Friday - A train wreck.. Author: PC1974 No MI PRIIA trains arrived final terminal within OTP tolerance, and 4 departed initial terminal out of tolerance. But it's Saturday morning at MIDOT, they might not be in the office to call and question the problems with equipment and train interference that happened yesterday..
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qwQC2mq38PwbUt4gmKjngzVI-tQaz2kI/view?usp=sharing 350 arrived PNT 56 mins late. 351 arrived CHI 3 hrs 4 mins late. 352 departed CHI 1 hr 35 mins late, arrived PNT 2 hrs 29 mins late. 353 departed PNT 2 hrs 21 mins late, arrived CHI 3 hrs 6 min late. 354 departed CHI 2 hrs 13 mins late, arrived PNT 2 hrs 43 mins late. 355 arrived CHI 1 hr 41 mins late. 365 arrived CHI 1 hr 59 mins late. 364 arrived PNT 1 hr 58 mins late. 371 departed GRR 6 mins late, arrived CHI 1 hr 39 mins late. 370 arrived GRR 16 mins late. And a couple of honorable mentions for our friends down state.... 851 arrived CHI 1 hr 11 mins late. 030 departed CHI 27 mins late. 048 departed CHI 5 hrs, 59 mins late. UPDATE: For those blaming a Winter Vortex, high yesterday at The Zoo was 14 degrees with light snow. Wind were 12 mph. There was no Blizzard or major Lake Effect Snow. Just a normal winter day in Michigan. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/09/19 07:25 by PC1974. Date: 02/09/19 08:14 Re: Amtrak Service in Michigan on Friday - A train wreck.. Author: stanhunter So there was actually no train wreck - just hyperboly.
Date: 02/09/19 08:45 Re: Amtrak Service in Michigan on Friday - A train wreck.. Author: Englewood Anyone have a handle on the problems?
Cars freezing in yard account bad 480v? cars left off 480v too long, ? employees unable to make the long journey to work in the cold weather ? the catch all excuse: signal problems ? Bad order locomotives ? ????????? Date: 02/09/19 08:56 Re: Amtrak Service in Michigan on Friday - A train wreck.. Author: keelhauled https://twitter.com/AmtrakAlerts generally has an indication, if not always the most detailed, of what happened. Looks like 350, 351, and 371 got hit by freight train interference, 353 had mechanical problems at Pontiac and later a "routing delay" at Battle Creek, 365 had en route mechanical problems, 352 turned from the late 351, 354 turned from the late 353, and 355 got stopped at Battle Creek due to a "host railroad communication issue."
48 apparnetly had mechanical problems in Chicago. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/09/19 09:12 by keelhauled. Date: 02/09/19 09:02 Re: Amtrak Service in Michigan on Friday - A train wreck.. Author: PC1974 Two biggest issues were 1) b/o equipment and 2) freight train interference. I'm not going to try and go thru it all train by train. Too big of a mess. I would point out the Amtrak's 14th Street and NS' Indiana Gateway are the two biggest areas to focus on, just like it will be today, and tomorrow, and on and, on.... Thank god 110 mph is coming to a station near you really really soon!
As for a train wreck, the passengers total delay in Michigan rivaled one. Date: 02/09/19 09:10 Re: Amtrak Service in Michigan on Friday - A train wreck.. Author: robj I couldn't find the story but a few days ago a Michigan train broke down around St. Joseph? engine died, and passengers got a bus, I think it was 76 passengers.
I also read some blogs talking about if service is ever on time. Not anti anything but whatever the reasons, service has very little utility at that level. Also the subject mentioned service and train wreck, I recognized the reference before I opened. Bob Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/09/19 09:12 by robj. Date: 02/09/19 09:12 Re: Amtrak Service in Michigan on Friday - A train wreck.. Author: andersonb109 Battle Creek has been a bottle neck on this line for years....as long as Amtrak has been running on that short segment of..oh wait...their "friends" at Canadian National. Go figure. They should have kept the the ex. MC line through Battle Creek so as not having to run on hostile CN, often being held to enter CN tracks at both ends of town. Porter to Chicago is another disaster thanks to NS. The Amtrak and state owned segments of the line seem to operate reasonably efficiently. By comparison, four of the five Delta flights (operated by some regional carrier) made it from snow bound and frigid Midway to DTW either OT or maximum 20 minutes late. There was one major exception at -4:32...but that's still less late time than the entire Chicago to Detroit route schedule.

Author: PC1974 Before you beat CN to death, Amtrak mgt (Donnie and Travis Show) came in and TORE UP the station track at BTL. They claimed it would force the CN to move us over their railroad and they couldn't put us in the hole. All that did was cut down on our options to move trains, and CN just held the train on Conrail (AML) property instead. The station track allowed passenger trains to meet efficiently right at the station, instead of the cluster we got left with. It's called a holding pattern at GORD! With CP's at both ends of the station, you could get right in and out. It was part of the improvements when the Michigan Central was abandoned. If you couldn't advance, at least you were on the platform in the clear and had options. Rip up track and point a finger at CN? Not so fast..
And then under Moe Savoy he decided to attack CN instead of working with them.. Wanted everybody reporting anything and everything to create a file to take and start a suit. Have you followed how that turned out? A big zero with more bad feelings.. Being a guest on the home road means you work with them and don't try to stab them in the back. Road Something Marsha put out some internal memo how to fax in dirt on CN to build the file, and her letter ended up being faxed right to the CN Chief DS.. Way to go.... Burn it down and upgrade the RR to 110 mph. That will fix everything and more. Date: 02/09/19 10:13 Re: Amtrak Service in Michigan on Friday - A train wreck.. Author: Englewood PC1974 Wrote:

Date: 02/09/19 15:02 Re: Amtrak Service in Michigan on Friday - A train wreck.. Author: mp51w I wasn't even aware of that Battle Creek track situation. What year did that all go down?
Chicago needs a bigger indoor facility to thaw out trains/and or keep them from freezing in the first place. Plus, new engines asap! Yes, I know about the RFP, but....we got trains to run Today! Date: 02/09/19 15:32 Re: Amtrak Service in Michigan on Friday - A train wreck.. Author: joemvcnj A couple of years ago, somebody in All Aboard Ohio had the "bright" idea of playing connect-the-dots and rerouting the Lake Shore Ltd via Michigan (after giving up on extending the Pennsylvanian or doing such to the Capitol Ltd), with a 3 hour running time extension. Someone at Amtrak was also fool enough to analyze it. But CN put the kibosh on it because of Battle Creek. There were postings on TO.com at the time all about it.
So some good came out of the Wolverine/Blue Water Battle Creek reroute and from CN being difficult Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 02/09/19 17:01 by joemvcnj. |
