Looking through train 792 at Santa Barbara yesterday, it sure looks like the windows are clean.

Maybe they merely replaced a broken pane.

I was on 59 last week and the windows in my compartment were so dirty it looked like it was a blizzard outside. The crew were complaining that the equipment was actually from the Texas Eagle but everything got so hosed up in Chicago with the cold weather that that was the only equipment they had available. All the cars were in the right order but oriented backwards for some reason. They were complaining about that too. The service was good but everytime I went to the dining car there were several staffers there drinking coffee and complaining about everything under the sun and some things over it as well.

It could be worse . . . it could be raining.

God knows their fully allocated cost accounting must charge the train for washing.

Just rode 49/3 Syracuse NY-Kansas City,Mo. Windows on both trains filthy. I brought along a small windex & paper towels but my space was on the non platform side in Chicago so couldn't do my window in room 12.

Can't remember the last time I had clean windows on Amtrak. Must be true that the word has gone out verbally to let the washers stay shut off???  Remember the DD formula...late/dirty trains=less riders=easy train offs.  Appears to be working.

They can't use the washers when it's below freezing because they will freeze up and destroy themselves.
Even if the washer is inside a heated building you still would end up with a very shiny, wheeled ice cicle!

The Texas Eagle and New Orleans share equipment pools. Incoming New Orleans (in the morning) becomes the outbound Texas Eagle in the afternoon. Incoming Texas Eagle becomes the outbound City of New Orleans in the evening. If they don't do a same day turn (due to late equipment arrival or other recent decisions) then it's a next day turn. Both operate with the Cross Country Cafe and the consists are somewhat "out of order."

Winter is a tough time to have car cleaning machinery operating when it will freeze up. In a perfect world, LA, Oakland, Seattle, Washington DC, and Miami (Hialeah, FL) would have car cleaning equipment. Not sure how often the Wasington DC equipment could be turned on, but it would at least be something for the corridor trains at the most southern point with milder climate than NYP or Boston! Corridor trains have to wait till a new invention comes out where by the Chicago and Denver car washers wouldn't freeze. Amtrak used to manually wash some LD train sets

Certainly not true.  Acelas get washed.  Trains get washed in Chicago in the winter.  Canadian trains get washed.

How?
