Northin' Could be Finer..........
Author: bmarti7

....than free dinner in the diner crossing North Dakota on the 17-hour late No. 8. I'm personally pleased to see that Amtrak has kept this train operating.

Once again you show everyone how pathetic you are by trying to tell some one with actual first hand knowledge that they are wrong and you know more than they do.

Amtrak train 8(9) is estimated to arrive into Chicago Union station at 6:40 AM Tuesday Feb 12, about 14 hours 45 minutes late.

I'd say BNSF is doing a great job. They took on a 15 hour late train, and will likely hand off a 15 hour late train, despite the horrible weather in Spokane making the switching take  2 hours.

I noticed that and tried adding 12 hours but that still left me 30 min. short. Now showing estimated arrival in Fargo at 8:14 pm, which would be 16 hours down.

I wonder how much of this horrendous delay is actually due to weather,  I'm guessing a lot of it is due to crews running out of time (both Amtrak and freight crews).

Doesn't matter, really.   Whatever the cause--the people trapped on this train are having a very unpleasant experience.

Why don't you ask one of the people on the train, the OP, if they're having an unplesant experience.
From the tone of his post it soulds like he was happy.

I wish the media WOULD interview these badly delayed people -- what an ear-full that would be.

I feel Most people would agree that being delayed 17 hours on a train--which was probably a long ride even before the delay--would qualify as an unpleasant experience.

Of course, if Amtrak would put you up in a Grand Hyatte somewhere. with a meal allowance, I would love a 17 delay.  Otherwise--god-awful!

Actually exchanging PM’s with Desertwind” who is on that train. He reports great attitudes by passengers and crews.

It's probably a lot more pleasant than the United plane stuck on the tarmac in Goose Bay, Newfoundland last week.  17 hours on a plane still on the ground isn't my idea of a fun trip

I was thinking the same thing.  Desert Wind said everyone was in good cheer on this very late train.  Still plenty of frozen tundra to pass through, I hope they can maintain without losing more time.

It's a great Amtrak day indeed! "Late" is just a social construct. Embrace the now on Amtrak!

This is what he does best, that and compare Amtrak to Delta. Most people see through this guy and his thinly veiled posts.

Any thoughts about what someone using that good old USA standby, the car, would experience attempting to cross the northern tier?  Have any of us ever been on a cross country auto trip where we lost 10, 15, 24 hours due to a snowstorm, flood, detour, rockslide, car breakdown, etc.?  How many "never again" types would that experience create?

I am glad that Amtrak kept the Empire Builder running, even though it was way late.  Many of us who were there might have modified our memories, but in fact the NP North Coast Limited and GN Empire Builder often operated far, far  behind schedule during bad weather on the Northern Tier.   They had the same issues as today's Empire Builder, with a fairly short layover at Seattle handicapping the turnaround.    BSB

Who? Anderson? He likes both Via and Amtrak and is perfectly willing to spend other peoples money to support them while at the same time espousing his "fiscal" conservative beliefs. Who say's you can't haver it both ways?
