Passenger Trains > Double-Headed Surfliner Makes Rare Midstream Flip FlopDate: 02/16/19 19:58 Double-Headed Surfliner Makes Rare Midstream Flip Flop Author: walstib Surfliner 782, the noontime departure from Goleta, developed some sort of troubles today, prompting crews to flip the train on the wye at Montalvo — going from push mode to pull — for the remainder of the trip to Los Angeles.
Not only did that result in a rare southbound move to Los Angeles with a Charger leading, but today's train had two Chargers. The train was running 3 1/2 hours late when I caught it at Simi Valley to shoot this quickie video. I don't know what the issue was that caused the crew to turn the train on the wye. They were about 30 minutes late out of the gate at Goleta, and things went downhill from there. Normally, Surfliners pull north from Los Angeles, and push back south. The train turned on the Wye at Miramar and continued on in pull mode. It was explained to me that the engineer needed to be in the locomotive and not the cab car to address the issues with the engine.
Thanks for the great pictures. Date: 03/02/19 05:23 Re: Double-Headed Surfliner Makes Rare Midstream Flip Flop Author: kingman Arent the gates supposed to be down bfore the train crosses the crossing?
