March 15, 1999 The "City of New Orleans" crashes into a steel truck at a protected grade crossing in Bourbonaise, IL. Eleven are killed. The wreck is blamed on the truck driver, who was driving on a suspended license and had only 3 hours sleep in the previous 24.

Time passes by so quickly. Monument is near a Dairy Queen close to entrance to Olivet Nazareth University where US 52 cuts off Main St at a weird junction... Too cold and rainy today to drive down for a Blizzard at the DQ.... For my spring todo list.

What happened to the driver? He should have at least gotten a manslaughter sentence if not murder 2.

And a link to Wiki telling about the accident and the aftermath.

I was there to help the next day and it was a terrible thing to see.
