Who is footing the bill for the relatively large ongoing platform replacement project  at the station in LaPlata?
Thank you,
Rich S

That is fascinating (at least to me).  Prior to any work starting, LaPlata appeared to be in a relatively state of good repair ( at least compared to some dumps I have boarded trains at).  That's a lot of platform being replaced. I wonder how the criteria works for getting these federal funds. Maybe local lobbying plays a role. Thanks!

How many decent meals in the diner would the money put towards a platform in a lightly used station pay for?

I watch the La Plata cameras often.  It is a busy stop. There is a college there and many from a religious group ride.  Some times as many as 20+ may be getting on or off for either #3 or #4.

I am surprised how long the project is taking.

Me too.  Seems like forever getting that done.

Topeka, KS is also getting their platform redone.  If delta dick has his way what a waste as the SW Chief he has scheduled for killing so no need for a new platform at Topeka or LaPlata.  Will the board of governors ever wake up!

I think they had some contractor issues and had to switch companies.

Personally having been watching the Kansas rail news for well over a year now, they are not exactly "lying down" nor "bowing down" to the likes of Richard Anderson. I can only assume that with this particular construction going on, that further threats would only potentially add to the fire and inflammation. Though looking on from a distance I've been gaining a lot of respect for Kansas. This is a state whose senator is not afraid to put a hold on potential board nominees and to meet face-to-face with Anderson.

Hay, the platforms are coming out of other FED budgets then Amtrak, so Anderson can care less.

All part of a Govt requirment of ADA platforms all stations !.

He had that mindset since he made those dumb changes last year, his reputation probably is passing the 10TH Level of Hell if he keeps doing what he's doing!

Yes. Barring another fire, Philmont season opens in just over three weeks.
