How's the LIRR / Metro-North PTC safety recall coming along?
Author: Lackawanna484

There was a thread about six weeks ago about the recall of PTC sensing devices recalled from a wide range of Metro-North and LIRR trains.  Lots of uproar, then a media blanket on any further comments.  Siemens was the prime contractor.

Any word on the progress?  I'm guessing NO, since several political figures are highly invested in this issue...

From the number of units that they mention and comments about mounting and vibration etc., it appears that they are talking about the track mounted transponders. This is neither the first time nor the first manufacturer of those units that has discovered fine tuning issues in the process of testing the system.

Of course politicians will take any opportunity to get on a soap box and bloviate, and the lesser their understnading of the underlying issue the louder the bloviation. So rest assured, if the process of addressing the defects discovered in testing are not on track for redmidiation in a timely manner there will be further and louder bloviation. Silence suggests things are moving along accoding to plan for addressing the failure.
