Amtrak 929 & 938 AEM-7 to CalTrain 6 June 2019
Author: cozephyr

Former Amtrak 929 & 938, AEM-7, were on the move to CalTrain in the South San Francisco, CA, area. Units moved on Amtrak's California Zephyr, train 5, BNSF Brush Subdivision at Fort Morgan, CO, 6 June 2019.  The AEM-7's will test newly electrified San Jose Corridor before new Stadler EMU's arrive (being built at new Salt Lake City, Utah, complex).

Caltrain is governed by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (PCJPB) which consists of agencies from the three counties served by Caltrain: San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara.

They retraced the very steps their replacements did in the other direction.

Caltrain is getting two Amtrak AEM-7's; 929 and 938.  Units passed Gross Dam on Union Pacific's Moffat Tunnel Subdivision at Crescent, CO, 6 June 2019.  Caltrain will use the AEM-7's to test the newly electrified San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara line.

That is a terrific video.   For a moment I was think drone with the super smooth drone.  Great scenery.

VOTD nomination.

Great Northern, anyone?

These took about 2 or 3 years to finally come to fruition - got the Reading unit, myself!

Odd, CalTrian has NO wires for these yet and based on how California works, I use to live in San Jose it will be a LONG time before they do.

Obviously you are out of touch. Poles are going up. IIRC testing is expected to start early next year.

I really like that second video.

It almost looks like Amtrak is testing a new dual-mode locomotive setup. Have Superliners ever been pulled by electric locomotives?

How about a SP paint version. Wings on both ends.

They are building a test track between the north end of CEMOF at College Park/CP Stockton and Santa Clara/CP Franklin, on the west side of the mains.  I think the plan was to have this test section live by the end of this year.
