CUS Legacy Club and Metropolitan Lounge
Author: PRSL-recall

I wish to apologize now if a thread has already been instituted, it just eluded me, but I just found out last night that according to this site https://www.scivision.dev/chicago-union-station-legacy-club/
the Chicago Union Station Legace Club has closed and that back in February. I guess the reason I happened to stumble onto it is that I had been proposing to try "coaching it" through Chicago for a trip this summer and was attempting to get refreshed on this facility, what it offered and the day pass. Surprisingly this was the only link I happened to find online discussing its closure. However unless I hear further comments it can only be assumed that it is history already.

One thing that I did notice however from the Chicago Union Station website at https://chicagounionstation.com/travel/metropolitan-lounge is that on the left side under "pricing" a day pass can be purchased for $25. Has anyone done this?

Anything that helps to make Amtrak travel a little bit nicer is slowly being eliminated. I suppose the Metropolitan Lounge will be next.

From my experience there’s plenty of room in the Metropolitan lounge, which includes the upstairs “Pennsylvania Room”.  This seems like an efficiency gain.

I was in both in 2017 I actually preferred Legacy. All on one level, and better variety of snacks.

If you were not already aware, there are nice showers at the Metro Lounge which would be refreshing after a long coach trip.  I made use of showers after an overnight Thruway bus ride to MKE from UP of MICHIGAN  and then train into CHI.  Very nice and clean.  My view is that it would be worth the $25.

The Legacy Club really duplicated the Metropolitan lounge offerings. As was metiioned, better snacks and booze in Legacy Club.

Metropolitan Lounge already accommodates sleeping car and biz class riders. Last I heard the Hiawatha customers can sit in the old Metropolitan lounge. That left a real narrow group of riders for Legacy Club. Those going coach usually do so for a reason...

There were Amtrak employees convinced that Metra riders would use it. A real misunderstanding of that market. Metra riders either go straight home or can drink without a cover at any number of downtown bars that cater to after work crowds, including the bar in Union Station.

In the end the right economical decision. The Met lounge is not going anywhere.

And we don't have to listen to that repetitive, & annoying Legacy club commercial on the speakers anymore!

I’ll be traveling through CUS in a few weeks for the first time since the Legacy closed. I am always a sleeping car passenger. I also preferred the Legacy to the the Metropolitan, old as well as new. The dragons at the gate of the new Metropolitan are no different (my experience) than the old lounge. As a 60+ solo female traveler the Legacy was vastly better because of outside food policies, luggage storage (always within eyeshot), ability to leave my possessions at my seat while I went to the restroom or to get something to eat from the food court, without fear of returning to find something missing, better snacks and beverage options (including adult offerings), and most importantly pleasant, caring Amtrak attendants.

I will miss it it!
