I'm not sure why the consist of train 1 needs to communicated in secret , but ok, whatever makes your duck quack. Unless there's a PV in the train the consist was likely the same as it's been for the last 20 years at least. I should know i saw the dam# thing every other day of my 33 years at Amtrak:
Baggage Car
Superliner sleeper dorm
Superliner sleeper
Superliner Dinner
Superliner Lounge
Superliner Coach
Superliner Coach
third coach possible at peak travel time

So how does one, in the absence of working for Amtrak or the host railroads, obtain access to company-internal information like consist makeups of specific trains?

Cute. But I'm talking about accessing proprietary intranets to look up said information.

Given the consist of #1 typically out og NOL, what gets added on to the rear from 421?  (the Texas Eagle)  Not ever ridden or seen either train.

My recollection is that a coach and sleeper run through from Chicago to LA and tie on to #1 at San Antonio.

Do they always stick the through sleeper and coach on the back of #1?

Sunset Limited used to get two sleepers LA to NOL and even on to Florida when a true transcon, with through cars added at San Antonio. But then reduced to one sleeper terminal to terminal.
