Passenger Trains > Virgin Trains will leave highway traffic in the dustDate: 06/17/19 04:51 Virgin Trains will leave highway traffic in the dust Author: ldstephey When Virgin trains begin service from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and beyond, the Orlando area will gain the distinction for hosting nearly the fastest rail travel in the United States. The 39 miles of Virgin’s twin-track corridor from Cocoa to Orlando International Airport will be entirely new, have no crossings and will be intensively maintained to minimize bumping or jarring.
Virgin officials say that stretch, when service begins in 2022, will sustain a speed of 125 mph that, while not the fastest in the U.S., is experienced more as a smooth glide than a typical ride. Parallel traffic on State Road 528, the Beachline Expressway, will be “left in the dust,” company officials noted. “We expect passengers to look out the window and be surprised at how fast they are moving,” said Patrick Goddard, president of Virgin Trains USA. https://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/os-ne-virgin-train-orange-track-20190617-hqzsnx3j6jhspf6z3svu5foxlu-story.html (Front page article) Date: 06/17/19 08:31 Re: Virgin Trains will leave highway traffic in the dust Author: ts1457 Thanks for the link to the article.
Getting to this point is very exciting. Date: 06/17/19 09:55 Re: Virgin Trains will leave highway traffic in the dust Author: Lackawanna484 Parallel traffic on highway US 1 and highway A1A between West Palm and Miami is already being left in the dust. I mentioned on another thread that BrightLine has already begun to develop some commuter traffic.
It's about 30 miles from Fort Lauderdale to Miami, but that drive can take an hour or more. Sometimes a lot more. (Yes, I know. Commuter business isn't in BrightLine's wheelhouse. But, it pays the bills at a nice fare per mile. Date: 06/17/19 11:20 Re: Virgin Trains will leave highway traffic in the dust Author: CPR_4000 Lackawanna484 Wrote:

Quite a few folks commute from Trenton, NJ to NY Penn on Amtrak. Quite a bit faster than NJT at a premium price. Funny, but very similar to these famous lyrics: "I hear those things are awfully loud It glides as softly as a cloud Is there a chance the track could bend? Not on your life, my Hindu friend" Who can tell us where those fine lyrics are from? Bueller? Bueller? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/17/19 12:41 by Duna. You'll be given cushy jobs Were you sent here by the Devil? No, good sir, I'm on the level But... it's more of a Shelbyville idea. Paul Wilson Arlington, VA Date: 06/17/19 14:26 Re: Virgin Trains will leave highway traffic in the dust Author: Tower_A-20 ’I call the big one bitey!’
