I know 30 left Chicago late due to a late turn of equipment stemming from 29 behind very late. Saw 29 by me here in Holland, OH at 12:35pm westbound with engines 52, 138 and 146.

What the heck happened to 48 tonight out of Chicago?

Crew HOS issue.  My guess is, inbound #29 crew must be normally be scheduled to work outbound #48.

48 left CHI at 1:33 am instead of the scheduled 9:30 pm.
Estimated to be about 5 hrs late at many stops.

That's awful for the crew and passengers who need to get to their destinations at a certain time. For railfans who live along the Water Level Route in Ohio and Pennsylvania, I'm sure that many of you were out taking pictures of the several hour late 48.

Amtrak has skeleton extra boards at most crew bases. It's a shame.

An armchair critic, not familiar with Amtrak crewing, would view this as a pretty cheesy operation.
It's expensive to have extra board employees standing by, especially when the regular crew is already paid a guarantee!

And no one at Amtrak cares...........        The leadership does not lead in the right direction.
