Passenger Trains > Aerial view of #49 arriving in ChicagoDate: 07/14/19 12:48 Aerial view of #49 arriving in Chicago Author: inCHI I was flying a drone for other views but the Lake Shore Limited happened to be arriving, so I caught a few views. In the middle shot the Illinois Zephyr is also headed in, and is passing Halsted St.

What is (was) that bridge that runs right next to the St. Charles Air Line? Date: 07/14/19 15:19 Re: Aerial view of #49 arriving in Chicago Author: 41 Believe that was the old B&OCT line that served B&O Grand Central Station. Believe line was dormant after GCT closed in 1969.

It really gives some perspective as to the size of the counterweights on the lift bridge compared to the truck just below.

Here are two more shots, one to show the Metra and Amtrak coach yards more, and the other showing the lift bridges. I was surprised that CN replaced those counterweights in the last few years, only because the Air Line is a route that I always suspect could be closed. I was at Matteson the other week and saw the BNSF coal train to CN that used to use that routing taking the EJ&E instead, and that is the last regular freight traffic that I'm aware of that uses it.

I was on Train 59, The City of New Orleans in July of last year and the photos help me understand the backup move we made shortly after leaving Union Station.
