Amtrak probably wants to see if anyone is awake on this route like they are on that of the Southwest Chief. They are probably searching for the weakest link, so time to move on to the Sunset Limited. The article seems to think the White House has the reins on Amtrak.

It is probably the most likely of the 15 to go.

Senator McSally is up for re-election next year.  Is she a friend or foe of Amtrak?

My question is: Why Tuscon? Benson and Yuma are both much smaller stations serving smaller markets. Maricopa is a smaller stop too, but its 'supposed' to be the stop for Phoenix.

The article heading is misleading. The Sunset Limited itself is being threatened.

There doesn’t appear to be anything we haven’t already heard in this article. But I did find the old photos attached quite interesting.

I just love the conspiracy theories on TO these days ... I see a subject line and imagine what will be said and how it will be linked back to Mr. Anderson.

Advocates for the Sunset Limited are hitting every station on the Route.   City Mangers,  C of C  etc.

This started as a project of Support for Daily Service.  Now its to protect the route period.

Just so happens a reported made some news out of it for Tucson.

It's maybe why I post these. Just wait till I float that Bigfoot is behind the ending of dining service on the Auto Train, the Loch Ness Monster is behind the bluff collape on the Surfliner Route, and Anderson is really the dark leader of the shadow government to force the proletariat  to depend on the Greyhound god. -Matt (Not an Illuminati member)

From the article:

The company has said the cost of equipment, fuel, . . . payments, staffing and “relatively light and seasonal” demand for long-distance service means “it is not currently possible to cover all operating expenses solely with ticket and other revenues,” according to a recent five-year service plan.

Sounds a lot like commercial airline service.

Everyday open TO to see if it’s going to be the diner, baggage, station agent, private rail car or train-off topic.   Imagine if Ed Dickens worked at Amtrak!   (Dark humor)

Well it does sum things up under Anderson. What else is there? Lol

looks like a very proactive strategy by these folks.

The Sunset Limited has been a Target to be cancelled for so many years.
I lose count on how many times. I heard on this site. About the Sunset Limited being cancelled.

I think it is safe to say. Any Amtrak Service outside the NEC. Is a Target to being cancelled.
I would even think the Corridor Services are a Target. Although no one is openly saying anything about it yet.

They claim corridor services are the way to go because of the ridership numbers, they could care less on actually going out and finding out themselves or what Anderson didn't like last year when he went to California and was upset that yeah, people use not only the California Trains for local travel, but connections to other parts of the country VIA LD Trains!

Anderson sees that typical distance travelled on LD trains is 600 miles, but cannot grasp the concepts of overlapping corridors with many endpoint permutations on such trains, with load factors along the way, so assumes the long swath of Sunset Ltd route with few stops with little population means the train must be mostly empty for that portion. We also saw that with his cockamamie SWC Bus Bridge.

No doubt Mr Anderson has access to load factor of the route.  There would be no need for him to "assume".

Assembling communities of interested parties worked well in protecting the Southwest train.  No reason it wouldn't do equally well on the Sunset route.

Making county commissioners, state legislators, US representatives aware of the need for the trains is a big step in keeping them operational.  The failure of local and state legislators to raise hell with the suspension of the eastern segment of the Sunset may be a good reason why it's not around anymore.
