The Scam That Refuses To Die

This thing has more lives than a cat.   Must be time to track down some more gullible investors.

I'll bet the laughter can be heard for blocks around the UP HQ in Omaha!

LA - Salt Lake City would make more sense, but not in the cards.

They might make it - Amelia Earhart is expected to be coming in for a landing in late March.

Very interesting story, the only negative part is from the Union Plaza, which kind of surprises me.  Anyone have a clue as to why the Plaza is dumping the bus terminal other than the demographics?

Maybe Virgin has made Plaza an offer they can't refuse.

Walked through the Amtrak “station” in The Plaza last year. Great mural of the Desert Wind along the hotel corridor leading back to where the station area was. My thought then was how long will The Plaza exist, even in the older downtown Vegas its old.

IIRC the "Union" Plaza hotel dates back to the early-mid 60's.

joe, back in the day you could tell who was going to Vegas and who was traveling beyond....especially if the cars were blocked.   Vegas cars , lively.  Others, like a funeral home. (Very quiet)   they did struggle to keep the bar stocked, the Vegas traffic did its best to support the cafe.

Overnight market between SLC and Vegas I thought was a good idea. With just San Bernado ,or worse yet, Victorville to Vegas, it is a single purpose train with few trip permutations. It will not do well.

Does UP have a case for arguing that passenger trains would interfere with their freight train fluidity on their LA-SLC line?  How many freights does UP still run on this line vs. in years past?

Thanks!

I totally agree.  Not going into LA via Fullerton is a bad plan.

I'll see it to believe it, I for one will always say when this subject comes up, Amtrak shouldn't of gotten rid of the Desert Wind, been a fight trying to restore service since the late 90s!

Is John Marino's son involved in this or is that a different venture he was promoting?

It's not quite that old.  It opened in July of 1971, two months after UP exited the passenger business.

Within three blocks of the Plaza there are dozens of vagrants living under tarps. Other than Fremont and a couple other streets with big casinos, downtown Las Vegas is a dump.
