The Amtrak Bluewater CAN move the train at 110 MPH!!
Author: Ron

I know the new Siemens Charger Locomotives have had a less than stellar performance so far here in Michigan.

I guess it's been quite a struggle to get Amtrak's ITCS System working correctly, and working for the entire trip. I do not know any Amtrak Locomotive Engineers personally, but from conversations on Facebook, it seems that some days it works, and other days it doesn't. Like anything brand new, a period of adjustment should be expected. Maybe they got it all sorted out by now.

Here is Amtrak #364 IDTX 4612 IDTX 4629, Saturday, August 24, 2019. This location is between Decatur, and Lawton, Michigan.

Nice video and thanks for the update on how things are going. I've been really wondering why there are so many persistant small delays that add up, and that helps it explain it. It also matches up to seeing the GPS tracking, where sometimes the train will do the 110mph for awhile, but then crawl at a random location for awhile, which could be where a problem with the systems happens. Two months ago I set up northeast of Michigan City to take a video of a Charger-led train going 100mph, and when it came time for it to pass, the headlight was taking forever to get closer. Soon I realized it was going at a crawl for whatever reason and I had all my video equipment in the car before it got by me. So much for that.

That DID NOT look like 110 mph.  More like 79 mph.

Always someone. I was waiting for it.

106-107 mph looks as good a guess as any.
The train is 653 feet long and takes
about 4.2 seconds to pass.

So Coach, what did you use to measure the speed of that train?

Santa Fe Golden Gates did 110 for a while between Bakersfield and Hanford beginning in the late '40s...
I rode 'em as a kid! Just got on the train and had to get off!

My experienced, railfan adjusted eyeballs!  The digital thing proves me wrong and wins, however!

And my middle name is Thomas!

Wow, that is fast!
Congrats on VOD!
Looks by my eye to be more like 108.75 mph :)
