NJT's NJCL Operations and Pine Creek Railroad: 8/2019 and 9/2019
Author: Passfanatic

This past month has had me make two trips to the North Jersey Coast Line beach towns. Last August on the 10th, I visited a friend in Ocean Grove and I managed to spend time railfanning in Asbury Park and Bradley Beach that day. Here are pictures from that trip.
1. Standing at the former North Asbury Park Station, I observe and photograph eastbound NJT Shuttle Train # 4724 passing the structure with an ALP45DP leading a Comet Set.
2. Comet V Cab Car # 6046 leads NJT Shuttle Train # 4728 into Asbury Park Station bound for Long Branch.
3. ALP45DP # 4534 shoves NJT Train # 4728 out of Asbury Park Station.

First picture here is of the USS 45 Tonner running through the fields of Allaire State Park shortly after departing the station. The last few shots are of NJT Trains at Manasquan Station-the first NJT shot is of Shuttle Train # 4753 being led by a PL42 and the second shot is of eastbound Shuttle Train # 4756 arriving into Manasquan Station with a Comet V Cab Car leading.

I didn't know the Pine Creek RR existed anymore. I took an NRHS fan trip there around 1972.
Is it the same narrow gauge as the CN Newfoundland ?

Pine Creek RR is the Black Hole of 36" gauge Museum clicks.  Not one steam engine is operating.  The only news out of this outfit is about their fights with their State and Park landlords or the prior manager who never seem to go away,  The only good  news coming out of Alaire State Park  is when something is sold and moved away.  Example of that is a ET&WNC box car and a H&C locomotive to the Hancock, MI.
The CN coach was from 42" gauge system and had been sitting on "shop trucks" which were SS&S log car arch bar trucks. If they found good passenger trucks for the CN coach or changed its gauge, that should have been good news to report but it was never shared or made part of any press report..

The Pine Creek Railroad has been around forever but it's not an operation that people probably want to keep going back to over and over. I'm not saying that it's a poorly run operation but the fact that the right of way goes in a loop that is probably 1/2 a mile isn't the biggest appeal to people who want to visit the railroad frequently. This isn't the Black River & Western railroad. Yes, the fact that there are no steam engines operating on the railroad is a disappointment. On a more positive note, there are several good spots to get pictures of the Pine Creek Railroad operations, especially in the field. I had a nice time at the railroad but I am not in a big rush to get back there, even if I had the time.
