LIRR ran them into the ground once the similarly aged M-1's were replaced between 2002 and 2006, and are in terrible shape. Two dozen have already been scrapped before replacements.
The M-3A's on Metro North have 4 times the MDBF, most got a major overhaul 10 years ago, still look new, and not due for replacement for several years. The stupid MTA tolerates this behavior without consequences, yet does nothing about LIRR's junk, custom-built, and inadequately-sized diesel fleet. Posted from Android Edited 1 time(s).
