Baggage - lounge for SP&S 700 crew car
Author: railscenes

The Pacific Rail Preservation Association will be painting their crew car #23 in the Northern Pacific two tone green passenger colors to match the lounge car Travelers Rest. Both cars are a part of the umbrella organization Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation on the grounds of their working museum in Portland, OR. I took this photo of the 23 this last Monday, 9/9/19, after it had been spiffed up by the PRPA crew for the Garden Railway convention excursion last week. The graffiti tags on both sides had been sprayed out but still left ugly patches on both sides.
The PRPA crew is still in the middle of the SP&S 700 boiler inspection with work being done by a boiler certified welder. The 700 sits outside temporarily for some fresh air while the switch crew re-arranges the line up of equipment in the engine house.  So any and all donations to the PRPA are appreciated. See sps700 website.
Thanks, Steve Rippeteau

Yes, thanks for asking. CN is what I heard and possibly NYC before that. Since I’m not sure thought maybe we’d hear from people in the know. It will be used for the ORHF Holiday Express Train as well as the crew car for the SP&S 700.
We are still finishing work on the interior as well as getting it painted.
So if anyone has good photos or detailed history of this car in a previous life that would be appreciated as well as donations and/or labor.

Correct on both accounts, NYC 22RM sleeper #10442 "Great Peconic Bay" (P-S, Lot #6790, Plan #4122, 1948), resold 1958 to CN as #2063 "Valjean", rebuilt 1973 to 14RM dormitory-baggage #9477, 1978 to VIA Rail #9477, resold 1992 to Pacific Railcar Services, stored on Mount Rainier Scenic RR, Mineral, WA, resold 2003 to Pacific Railroad Preservation Association, rebuilt 2004 to tool car PRPX #23.

Thank you for that history.  A true survivor from the former New York Central.
