Taken at face value, the new schedule indicates that the late train to SLO has connecting bus service to "San Jose/San Franciso/Oakland", which would be a welcome change – right now, that bus only goes as far as Paso Robles. Is that correct?

As far as it goes, the new format (I'm assuming that's what it is) is easier to read than the old one. But there's no info for Thuway buses beyond the San Diego-SLO corridor, except for the bus to Indio. It shows which trains have connecting bus service to/from Oakland, but doesn't show the schedule. The link to Thruway bus info on the website doesn't have schedules either, although it hasn't been updated since April.

The old one had a separate section for "California Coastal Routes", which was useful once you figured out how to use it. But it could also be confusing. If north/south Thruway schedules were added, it would be more user friendly than the old format.

One can hope the Coastal Thruway schedule gets added. Its most useful.

The night bus from San Diego  5811 bus is not shown either. Nor the night buses  Los Angeles to San Diego.

Course the night buses can only be used if a connecting rail service is used, so Surfliner folks are not concerned with that.

But we must remember that the Coastal and San Joaquin schedules are paid for by a different railroad !
The night buses are part of the San Joaquin service,  so you go to their schedules.
.
Its no longer Amtrak, but three joint powers, Surfliner - San Joaquin - Capitol. that is involved with the Coastal Thruway schedule.

Oh, forgot,  its now Amtrak Connections, not Thruway. That's old fashion.

To me, the term Connection does not mean guaranteed service.
Local Transit may be a connection, the Thruway was a guaranteed.

I go back to the Santa Fe "Coordinated Rail-Bus" days,  A few may remember this term.
That too showed that it was guaranteed.

OR  remember the Caltrains California Timetable that showed ALL the rail and bus timetables. ?

Thanks! No late bus northbound, but that's the way it's been. Still enough options.
