27(8) - annulled? Bustituted?
Author: rwelkerjr

28(7) was stopped north of Pasco last night due to a lineside fire (not train-related). I assume passengers were bussed to Spokane, resulting in a late departure of 8(7).

What happens to the folks on 27(8)? It's showing as a "service disruption". Is there anywhere north of Pasco to turn the trainset? Or do the passengers get bussed all the way from Spokane to Portland? Only the regular 5 passenger cars passed the Skykomish cam this morning.

Just curious if anybody knows how this is being handled.
Thanks

Dixieland shows train 8(07) arriving at Spokane at 12:21 am but no departure time. still waiting for 28(07) to arrive?
Train 7(06) is shown departing Spokane 14 minutes late at 02:29 am after arriving at 02:28 am; is it carrying the Portland section to Seattle?

Amtrak Train Status appears to be working; it shows 8(7) arriving Whitefish three hours late; but 27(6) still in Service Disruption.

Passengers on 28 were bused from Pasco to Spokane.

Passengers on 27 were bused from Spokane to Pasco, where the previous night’s 28 train set was waiting to take them to Portland.

The 27 portion of the 7/27 consist was taken from the train at Spokane, and added to 8, to complete the eastbound train from Spokane.

From the reports in Spokane, it didn’t sound like anyone was happy.

Thanks. So there was someplace to turn that trainset around to go from Pasco back to Portland early this morning.

The arriving 27 was not "turned". It was simply added to the end of the 8 from Seattle and returned east at 28 in backward consist order.  In other words, the sightseer lounge was the last car and the Portland sleeper was right behind the Seattle coach meaning that Seattle coach and sleeper passengers had to walk through the Portland Sleeper and the two Portland coaches to get to the Sightseer lounge car. How do I know this? A Facebook member posted a video to the Amtrak Facebook page as the eastbound Empire Builder traveled through Montana. I think the 8 arrived Chicago today about 5 hours late.
