Amtrak isn't the only one that has weather problems.

It doesn't look like the high-speed trains in Japan will be so high speed for a while.  This picture comes from "Japan Today."  Japan was in the path of a major typhoon last week.  Just before the typhoon hit, they were also hit with a medium strength earthquake.  I don't know how severe the damage is but it looks like these trains might be out of service for a least a day or two after the water goes down.

The location is Nagano and the ten trains in the yard total 120 cars. Latest images on NHK the yard is clear of water but rails covered in mud. We had nearly three feet of rain at our location but high and dry.

Ten Hokuriku Shinkansen Line trains worth ¥32.8 billion sustain damage after yard is flooded in Typhoon Hagibis

JIJI, KYODO
OCT 13, 2019

East Japan Railway Co. (JR East), said Sunday that its Hokuriku Shinkansen bullet train yard in the city of Nagano was flooded due to heavy rain associated with powerful Typhoon Hagibis, which raked parts of eastern Japan over the weekend.

The damage with Exchange @ 108 works out to US $303.7 Million.

Did the Japanese, by any chance, hire management from New Jersey Transit?

NNN had a very informative report on the Shinkansen demise. It will be at least a year and a half to build new trains. I also learned an interesting fact that the trains have 4 different electricity providers and the cycles vary between 50 and 60hz which makes the trainsets unique.  Eight sets are owned by JRE and two sets JRW. They mentioned air brake systems are trashed being submerged and I can imagine the interiors are trashed too.

First picture they were showing that a train had floated to a new resting position! Grab shots from my digital camera next to the TV for my usual Fuji shots.

My first thought when I saw the pictures was, "this doesn't look like Hoboken"...

Japanese precision-line them up in one place so they can all get destroyed together.

The service and layover facility appears to be in a low-lying area adjacent to the Asa River, to the northeast of the city center of Nagano. The through tracks are on elevated structure, while the yard is at a lower level.
