NJ Senator Cory Booker issued a statement demanding that US Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao take action to expedite the Amtrak + NJ Transit Gateway Tunnels nder the Hudson River.  His statement also revealed that ms Chao took an unreported inspection trip through the tunnels, and saw the visible need for action.

Booker and fellow Senators Chuck Schumer, Bob Menendez, and Kirstin Gillibrand have attempted to craft deals to finance improvements several times, only to see them collapse at the last moment. The proposals include per rider surcharges, diversion of toll revenue from bridges and tunnels, and direct payments.

And what if his demands also fall flat? A demand backed up by nothing but hot air is worthless.

If someone important wants to Make America Great Again....new tunnels certainly would.

Perhaps the Senator should take it up with the Secretary's husband. Maybe he could offer some 'quid pro quo'.

Actually, there is some this for that. According to my Congressman when I spoke to him last month at a street fair, McConnell has a highway bridge he wants replaced, and it is the 2nd most expensive infrastructure project behind Gateway. I don't know the details.

Well, that is the way things used to work.

That, and earmarks. Not a totally bad thing.
