Passenger Trains > Dining car questionDate: 11/07/19 14:33 Dining car question Author: SP2541 Dubin, in his tome Some Classic Trains, remarks in one place that a dining car was running backwards. The comment struck me as odd because I had never considered dining cars anything but bi-directional. Since half of the customers are always riding backwards, did it make any difference which end the kitchen was placed?

Date: 11/07/19 15:26 Re: Dining car question Author: agentatascadero There's another way to think about it......being kitchen facing the Pullman cars, so that coach passengers could be prevented from making their way towards the Pullmans....the Steward could intercept said wayward passengers. In the old days, this seemed to be standard practice.
