going out on  49--449 on Monday Nov 19Th  do to p head dropping the baggage car on 449 is there thew checked baggage  still on 449 to Boston . thanks in advance for replays

Steamboat - Unfortunately, the baggage car was dropped from 449/448's consist last January.   49/48 still handles checked baggage.

Can checked baggage be handled via New York Penn station, with a one day delay, on 66/67?

With a delay of 24-48 hours see no reason it could not be done.

But knowing amtrak and the knowledge of the folks checking bags, that it would  happen.

Think at one time after 9/11, checked bags had to go the route of the ticket and on the same day, not sure if that still applies.

The 10/1/19 online timetable for the Lake Shore shows checked baggage for Springfield and South Station. Is that simply wrong, or is it possible checked bags are handled even without a baggage car as happens on (say) 27/28 between Spokane and Portland?

27/28 have a Superliner 31xxx coach-baggage car. No such thing on 448/449. Maybe sleeper passengers are afforded the courtesy use of a room to stack luggage.

I think that's "simply wrong".  I saw a video recently of 449, and it had no baggage car.  As to checking bags on 66/67, who wants to go the station two times?  Baggage service--or rather its lack--is a joke east of New York City.

Is there still a separate 449/448 train set between Rennselaer and Boston, with a "cross-platform" transfer?
Or does the inbound Chicago equipment sometimes split and go thru to Boston as it used to do?
If the latter, is it predictable what days the equipment goes through and what days?
If not, has there been any decision about restoring the thru Chicago-Boston service?
Sorry to be possibly redundant, but have not seen any recent update on what is actually going on with the Lakeshore at Albany/RSR. 

The Boston section of the train is removed or added at Rensselaer  (1 sleeper, 1 cafe/business class, 2 coaches).  The 2 locomotives go thru to Chicago.

When the Boston LSL was launched by Amtrak in October 1975, checked bags were stored in a vestibule as there was no assigned baggage car.  This didn’t last long though.  Baggage cars were in use from early 1976 until Amtrak dropped them this year.  This train could use one of the new bag dorms, with rooms offered for sale, as it’s existing sleeper is generally sold out.

There's no H room in those cars.  Does anyone know if that makes these cars non-ADA compatible?

The Superliner transition dorms don’t have H rooms either, but can handle revenue passengers, presumably because the other sleepers have ADA compliant rooms....should be the same with this idea.  Given that Amtrak has cut the dining car staff to one, the Viewliner bag dorms are otherwise going to running around with quite a few empty rooms.
