Amtrak on the High Plains

i drove from La Junta to Santa Rosa on November 3rd ,

i saw the westbound Amtrak at La Junta ,Raton  and Springer 

these are at La Junta a northbound coal load and Amtrak arriving at the depot  and a grab shot from the highway on the pass

the first photo is looking down grade towards Springer  at the approximte location of Robinson siding long since gone

some semaphores seen between Springer and Las Vegas NM  there were not many to be seen now

arriving at La Junta,  then seen at a grade crossing a few miles south of here ,then arriving at Raton... much to the delight of an intending passenger

There are still about 40+ on the line starting eastbound at Cerrillos with quite a few being single intermediate signals. You just have to know where they are and some are pretty inaccessible even from the local roads. I rode east on #4 a couple of weeks ago in the Overland Trail lounge (now relocated to the east coast) and I pointed some of them out so photographers could get a picture out the rear door window. Riding back on Amtrak in the lounge they were much harder to spot as they went by fast.

perhaps that is the set consist since the new timetable for fall 2019/20
