Nothing new here. Been like this for decades now.

Way back before the interstate was built I remember when my family would drive in our 49 Chevy down to California from Vegas to visit relatives.  It was two lane highway then.  We seemed to always get behind a PIE semi truck on Mountain Pass.  My dad would terrify my mother by keep poking out to pass.  We would celebrate being alive by stopping in Baker for gasoline and a bathroom break.,

From what my dad said about HWY 58 that stretch from NEvada and Route 66 probably was always full of Semis, I can imagine how dangerous it was to pass on thos roads, especially at night!

A lot of the same people do the same trek year after year.

even when #35/36 ran, it did NOT put a dent in the end of the holiday congestion from vegas on I-15.  still, it would be nice to have #35/36 again..............

A 21-mile backup and UP #4014 wasn't even in the area!  The last time that I drove this route, on the California side the CHP had an airplane in the air measuring car speeds, with 15 to 20 pursuit cars working with him.  The pursuit cars were pulling over up to 4 cars at a time!  California put a small fortune into their coffers that day!

A train will not fix congestion anywhere. Some trains is an essential component (but won't end congestion by themselves).

I-95 in Virginia and NC can see similar backups on the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

Easier and just as effective to have Southwest/Delta/United/American add a couple of more flights to the LA area.....

They need to do that all the time, I use to to get to Palmdale and I hate driving that freeway because most of the drivers think it's the Daytona 500!

Outside of NYC and maybe bits of Chicago, pax rail transport (LD or transit) does not reduce congestion. Not essential.

So what's the speed limit on the CA side? Does it decrease when you drive from NV to CA?

The movie with Dennis Weaver.
Probably got the idea for it driving those routes.
Also old US 66 between Kingman and Flagstaff.
Make America Great Again, Yeah....those were NOT the days.

70 MPH is the posted limit in CA. Actual speeds may vary, i.e. is there a CHP near by?
